Founded by Kat Krylov (vegan) in 2017, Promised Land Animal Sanctuary is a safe haven for animal-people who have been abused, neglected or abandoned. The facility is located in Trent Hills, Campbellford, Canada, with 25 acres for the animal-people residents to enjoy. More than 100 animal-individuals call the Sanctuary home, including sweet horse- and donkey-folk, chicken and duck families, alpaca, goat and sheep friends, a cat community, dog friends, and more. “And then I saw what happened to them. And from there, that extended to all animals, to my idealistic brain as a child, was that I could eventually save all the animals on the planet from suffering.”

As Ms. Krylov began running the sanctuary, she faced a steep learning curve caring for a variety of animal-people species. “If I don’t have volunteers here helping me, which sometimes I do right now, which is super helpful, but most of the time throughout the year, it’s just me, and I also have a full-time job. It’s definitely more challenging in the winter, because there’s frozen water buckets, and you have to navigate the cold.” “Those have happened as well, and some of the animals are headed on their way to someone’s plate. Like, there were some goats that we rescued last summer. The four little goats were going to get shipped for slaughter the day before we rescued them.” In addition, Kat Krylov runs a vegan bed and breakfast, offering yoga, meditation, and horse therapy. It’s a place of tranquility for visitors. “So, we do, it’s bed-yoga-breakfast. Well first it’s yoga at 7:30 and then it’s a plant-based breakfast.”
