On today’s program, we’ll share methods to grow your favorite foods with little or no garden space.

“It’s fun to grow your own vegetables! Even growing salad on the balcony is plenty for you to eat. You don’t eat salads every day, so you just grow some, and then it lasts you at least a week or a month. And then you plant another one. Take turns like that, and you will always have something to eat. So, it’s a better way to be independent.”

Many types of vegetables and fruits can be grown in a pot. Sometimes you don't even need to buy seeds. Besides tomatoes and eggplants, you can also grow other vegetables from kitchen scraps. You can use the “vertical gardening” method with many types of vegetables, including lettuce and bok choy. You can make your own vertical planter using plastic bottles and grow a lot of food with just a little space near a wall or on a balcony. You can also plant fruit trees in pots.

Our Most Beloved Supreme Master Ching Hai (vegan), also shared with our Association members a way to grow vegetables indoors in case we don’t have a garden or when the weather is too cold outside. You can easily create your own hydroponic system for growing vegetables using a plastic container or bottle, pool noodles, and plant nutrients. Sprouts are one of the easiest and quickest hydroponic vegetables to grow, and bean sprouts, in particular, are low-calorie and nutrient-rich. You can also grow microgreens hydroponically.
