A recent peer-reviewed study by the non-profit Farm Sanctuary reveals that chicken-people experience increased optimism when provided with learning opportunities. Published in the Journal of Applied Animal Welfare Science, the investigation used judgment bias tests to measure the emotional state of rescued chicken-citizens. Researchers taught the participants that flipping the lid off a bowl would lead to another covered bowl with a reward. The results showed that chicken-residents who learned to solve tasks and control their access to rewards experienced increased optimism, similar to humans who enjoy learning new things. The study emphasizes the need for more humane treatment and enriched environments for these intelligent bird-individuals. Farm Sanctuary is a Shining World Compassion Award recipient. Supreme Master Ching Hai (vegan) has previously donated US$15,000 to support Farm Sanctuary and its affiliates’ work. Our appreciation, Farm Sanctuary, for your remarkable research that improves our understanding of chicken-persons’ emotions. May our feathered friends live in peace with the respect they deserve, in Divine splendor.
