The European Union (EU) provides humanitarian aid to Myanmar.
In the wake of an unstable political situation and strife in the country, the EU has allocated €9 million in relief assistance to be distributed through various non-governmental organizations, United Nations agencies, and the Red Cross. The contribution will be used for food, urgent health support, security, and other types of emergency aid. This amount is in addition to the €11.5 million provided earlier this year and will help more than 336,000 people in the country who have been internally displaced by the conflict, including vulnerable ethnic minorities. The European Union is a recipient of four Shining World Leadership Awards for Humanitarianism, two Shining World Leadership Awards for Peace, and a Shining World Leadership Award for Earth Protection; as well as a laureate of two Shining World Leadership Awards for Humanitarianism and Shining World Leadership Awards for Compassion, Unconditional World Care and True Caring. New research indicates higher sea levels from climate change than earlier predictions.
A recent report warns that if the West Antarctic Ice Sheet totally collapses over the next millennium as a result of global warming, sea levels could rise one meter higher than the previously estimated 3.2 meters. Co-led by Harvard University, USA graduate students Linda Pan and Evelyn Powell, the study shows the additional rise would occur due to the low viscosity material of the mantle under the ice sheet shifting upwards as the ice weight decreases, thereby pushing meltwater out into the ocean. Alarmingly, the research estimates that 20% of this could occur by the end of this century, further devastating communities living on islands as well as in coastal and low-lying regions. Russia launches satellites that enhance worldwide Internet coverage.
The Russian space agency Roscosmos recently put 36 satellites into orbit, built by the British firm OneWeb, which will help to increase global Internet accessibility. A Russian-made Soyuz rocket carried the satellites, and is the sixth so far as part of a plan to put 650 of such satellites into space. A video of the event was shared on Twitter, and the launch was dedicated to the 60th anniversary of the historic first human orbit of the Earth by Russian cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin. New Zealand government report shows widespread environmental damage from dairy production.
A publication from the Ministry for the Environment in New Zealand has revealed the enormous harm the dairy industry has done to the land. Since the 1980s, the number of cows has doubled to six million, which has caused native ecosystems to shrink and become contaminated with agricultural runoff. Additionally, 80% of sites tested failed soil quality measures, and rivers have become polluted with excess nitrogen from fertilizers that farmers use to boost animal feed crop production. New Zealand is a recipient of Shining World Leadership Awards for Compassion and Peace, and a laureate of two Shining World Leadership Awards for Climate-Change Mitigation, and Shining World Leadership Awards for Earth Conservation, Earth Protection, Earth Guardian, and Earth Restoration. Canadian couple gives thank you cards to truck drivers.
Since April 2020, Canadian seniors Beverly and Richard Perrin have given more than 1,000 cards to truck drivers in Canada to thank them for the work they do delivering important supplies. The project began after Mrs. Perrin heard of the challenging conditions that the drivers have faced during the COVID-19 pandemic. She and her husband deliver the cards to a truck stop in Tilbury, Ontario, as well as other places. The thoughtful handwritten notes read: “Thank you so much for bringing supplies to our stores, even though it is sometimes under harsh circumstances. Take care. Stay safe. God’s blessing on you always. Love Beverly Perrin, a very grateful senior.” Our hats off, Beverly and Richard Perrin, for your loving support to the important truck drivers who deliver essential items, clothing, medical equipment and more. Michelin-starred chef converts his restaurant to vegan.
French chef Alexis Gauthier has confirmed his London brasserie Soho Gauthier will be 100% vegan when it reopens on June 23 of this year once coronavirus restrictions ease. Additionally, chef Gauthier has also opened 123 Vegan, a plant-based cafeteria at Mayfair’s department store in Fenwick, offering diverse comfort dishes for customers. A vegan since 2016, he wrote on his webpage, “I believe it is our duty as human beings to leave the planet in a better state than we found it, and a very good place to start is addressing the impact we make with our needless and selfish consumption of animals.” Bravo, chef Gauthier! Endangered monkeys saved by road speedbumps in Zanzibar.
A study has found that by creating speedbumps on a section of road in the Jozani-Chwaka Bay National Park that is frequently crossed by the endangered Zanzibar red colobus monkey, many lives have been saved. Prior to the installation, one monkey sadly lost their life about every two to three weeks. One estimate pegged this to be 12 to 17% of the local population annually. After the speed-limiting devices were installed, this has been reduced to roughly one fatality every six weeks. The analysis was conducted by primatologists from Bangor University, USA, working with the Wildlife Conservation Society and national park managers. Our gratitude to all involved in creating the speedbumps and monitoring the safety of the precious Zanzibar red colobus monkeys. We pray that more such actions will be implemented to ensure they thrive under the watchful eye of the Divine.

A couple had been married for 45 years and raised 11 children and were blessed with 22 grandchildren. When one of their friends asked about their secret to staying together through all that time, the wife replied:
