In Shining World Compassion Award News from Taiwan, also known as Formosa…
Luo Hong Xian was a third-generation raiser of pigs. He had been taught that these innocent animals were simply a source of income for him and his family. However, in 2008, all of that changed. While loading the pigs into an abattoir-bound truck, one of the pigs stayed silent while the others were squealing. The heavy-hearted pig looked directly into Mr. Luo’s eyes, and in that moment of clarity, he understood that the animal was asking how he could give him away after being companions. Mr. Luo realized that animals have consciousness and decided to become vegan. He then converted his farm into the Love Sea Animal Sanctuary, which currently houses hundreds of animals, and he has been invited to give talks to the public to promote veganism.
“All we really need is courage. Just like me, 13 years ago, I bravely said that I don’t want to be involved in the killing business, and I want to dedicate the remaining time of my life and this land to all beings in order to make it a real-life education park. Animal livestock raising is the biggest culprit in the destruction of our Earth. Now, the only way to save the planet is not about driving lots of electric cars, not in finding lots of ways to reduce one’s carbon footprint. As long as everyone adopts a plant-based diet, Mother Earth will soon restore Her vitality.”
Upon learning about the sanctuary that Mr. Luo had created, our Benevolent Supreme Master Ching Hai: “Cheerfully present the Shining World Compassion Award to Luo Hong Xian, plus US$10,000 in humble support of the Love Sea Animal Sanctuary, with all love and gratitude, in Heaven’s embrace.”
Our Association members in Taipei, Taiwan (Formosa) were pleased to present the Award letter, crystalline plaque, Master’s financial contribution along with Her uplifting publications and DVDs to Mr. Luo. To date, you’ve also encouraged tens of thousands of visitors to likewise embrace the vegan way of living to save lives and our planet. For your benevolent transition touching the hearts and souls of citizens and fellow farmers, for using your awakened state to nurture empathy and harmonious co-existence between all beings, and for your love promoting the plant-based diet; with the utmost praise, we salute the heroic and great compassionate deeds of Luo Hong Xian. May Heaven shower you in blessings and protection.”

Researchers find direct cellular link between colon cancer and red meat consumption.
A study by Dr. Marios Giannakis, of Harvard Medical School in the United States, and colleagues, that was recently published in the Cancer Discovery journal, found a direct cellular link between colon cancer and eating processed as well as unprocessed red meat. The research showed that red meat causes genetic mutations and DNA damage in colon cells. It also stated that colorectal cancer patients, who had the highest levels of red meat-induced cell damage within their tumors, had a 47 percent greater chance of death from the condition versus patients with a lesser amount of cellular damage. Advanced rehabilitation medical clinics for disabled begin service in Gaza.
Through funding by the Qatar Fund for Development, a Qatari state agency, His Highness Hamad Bin Khalifa Hospital for Rehabilitation and Prosthetics has opened new medical facilities to serve people with disabilities in Gaza. These include clinics for pediatrics and neurological rehabilitation, pain management, stroke, spinal injuries in addition to urology and andrology treatment. Children suffering from central nervous system injuries, cerebral palsy and muscle diseases, as well as spinal injuries that affect their perceptual motor development will be treated in these facilities. This new expansion will provide integrated health services and is expected to serve 2,000 or more patients annually. Qatar is a Shining World Leadership Awards for Peace and Compassion laureate. Small town in Victoria, Australia, aims to be 100% green energy-powered.
Yackandandah is a town in Australia’s northeastern Victoria state with a population of 1,800 people. With the help from state government grants, the community has recently installed a mid-sized battery to store and supply solar power to 40 local households whenever needed. The 274 kilowatt-hour battery is the size of a four-wheel-drive-vehicle and paired with a 64-kilowatt rooftop solar array. “Projects like these show the community is keen to embrace renewables,” said the Honorable Lily d’Ambrosio, Victoria’s Minister for Energy, Environment and Climate Change. The town endeavors to exclusively use sustainable energy by the end of 2022. Way to go, Yackandandah community, for this successful earth-friendly initiative. Selfless teenager performs acts of kindness to make people happy.
Sebbie Hall, an 18-year-old from Lichfield, Staffordshire, United Kingdom, who has special needs, has accomplished over 1,600 random acts of kindness, starting with offering his own laptop to a friend in early 2020. Since then, and inspired by his mother’s advice, sweet Sebbie has carried out at least one random act of kindness every day. His good deeds include giving out personal protective equipment, baking cakes for nurses, distributing warm coats to the homeless, walking animal companions, and more. He’s helped to raise over £28,000 in donations for charities that support young people with special needs. Sebbie shared, “Kindness is my superpower.” He received the UK Points of Light award, which recognizes inspirational volunteers, and a thank you note from the Prime Minister of the UK, His Excellency Boris Johnson, who is a Shining World Leadership for Caring Award laureate. A company from Vancouver, Canada, called Vegano has launched a 100% vegan grocery store on its website where people can shop for plant-based food items and have them delivered to their door. Currently, the service is offered in the Metro Vancouver area, as well as in Whistler and Squamish. By the end of the year, it plans to expand to Montreal and Toronto as well as Los Angeles, United States. At the moment, 500 items are available, including offerings from brands such as Field Roast and the Very Good Butchers. However, by 2021’s finish, the firm intends to have 10,000 different products for sale on its platform. Puppy covered in tar rescued after mother dog’s plea for help.
A stray dog in Namstsy, Russia, started whining and circling around brothers Vasily and Boris Krymkov, animal rescuers who had been alerted that a pup had previously fallen into a pool of tar. The baby had been stuck there for possibly two days until she was taken out by a road worker, who had also been beckoned by the mom. The two gentlemen then spent about three hours cleaning the tar off of the pup and then washed her in a nearby river, while the mom looked on. They then took her to a vet. Later, both the mom and her baby, who was doing well, were taken to a charity to be looked after. The brothers returned to the tar pit to make sure it was well covered. Thank you, Vasily and Boris Krymkov, for your timely response. We are so happy the puppy is fine and with her loving mom. May we all be able to recognize and respond to the desperate calls of our animal friends whenever they are in need, in Celestial oneness.
